BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The first round of the Regions Tradition has started after a three-plus hour rain delay, the second straight weekend rains have impacted PGA Tour Champions events.
The first groups teed off early Thursday afternoon at Greystone. It’s the first of the 50-and-over tour’s five majors.
Last week, Scott Dunlap was declared the winner of the Insperity Invitational after 36 holes, all played on Saturday. Weather washed out play on Friday and Sunday. It was Dunlap’s first PGA Tour Champions title since winning the 2014 Boeing Classic.
Steve Stricker is going for his third straight Regions Tradition win and fourth in the past five. All three have come by six strokes. He tied the tournament record with a 23-under 265 last year to win by six strokes over Ernie Els and Robert Karlsson.
Thursday’s delay was about 3 hours and 10 minutes.
